Eliza Cantrell steps off a train to meet her intended with a nasty facial wound, arriving earlier in Salt Flats, Kansas than expected. That premature arrival placed Eliza on a train intercepted by vicious outlaws who stole every dollar of her dowry and diminished her chances of contributing to her husband-to-be's store. Even more unexpected was the fact that her fiance Axel Langston, was nowhere to be found. Instead, Eliza meets William Stanton, Axel's business partner in the "Men's Emporium", who also carefully and compassionately stitches up evidence of a painful blow to her cheek.William Stanton has always dreamed of going to medical school. Instead, William faithfully keeps Axel Langston's store in business while his partner curiously disappears from time to time; furthering his own medical training by reading books and journals while treating the locals with natural remedies, free of charge. Eliza's presence in the store is disquieting, to say the least, but when her future suddenly dissolves and is then mysteriously resurrected, will Eliza's prideful determination to live out her dream of running a successful business, destroy any happiness that she and William might have found together?
"A Bride in Store" is an engaging story involving two characters who continually choose the hardest path to happiness, but who arrive at their destination, nonetheless.

In the past I didn't get into mail order bride stories...Jagears creates a realism that keep the reader interested, smiling and wanting the best results even when you know the story will end well.
This was a good Christian fiction romance--easy on the religion part of it--and the story moved along without the whole "must wait on conversion or spiritial awakening" where a lot of Christian fiction bogs down. There were good characters and nice plot. I think Jagear writes well--is easy to read. I look forward to book 3 in this series.
If you could remove 75+/- pages this would be a pretty good book; otherwise, for me anway, it was a struggle. It was also conflict overload. It was a new conflict with every chapter.
Will was so sweet and trusting. Always putting others wants and needs before his own. Eliza was concerned with her dream of owing a store.
The ending was the best part of the entire book.
I would give it 3 1/2 stars (rounded up to 4)
I went straight from one book to the next without checking the numbers. The 3 book set actually is a four book set. The first just a novella but worth reading. I certainly hope Melissa Jagear' s had more books. She is a great writer and I love how CLEAN and Godly her books are. You will NOT be disappointed.
A BRIDE IN STORE is the delightful second novel in the Unexpected Brides Series featuring the two strong lead characters, William Stanton and Eliza Cantrell.
Possessing astute business savvy, Eliza Cantrell arrives in Salt Flats with one goal--to procure a store even though that means marrying a stranger. When she's robbed on the train, she quickly discovers her dreams may look different than expected.
Determined to save up money for medical school, William Stanton works at his friend's general store where he's drawn to Eliza--a woman who speaks her mind and runs the store better than he could himself. The only problem being she's the mail-order bride for his best friend.
Through a series of twists and turns and obstacles, Melissa Jagears takes her readers for one amusing ride. Ms. Jagears manages to maintain tension one every page, making the reader continue on to the story's satisfying conclusion.
I enjoyed this book just as much as Ms. Jagear's prequel, LOVE BY THE LETTER, and even more than A BRIDE FOR KEEPS, and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
This is the second book in the series but may be read as a standalone.
Eliza Cantrell has a strong yet sweet personality which makes her so likeable. She travels to meet her intended groom a bit early and finds herself the victim of a train robbery. Eliza finds her face the recipient of the butt of a gun when she tries to hide some of her cash.
Broke and in need of stitches she arrives in Kansas. Once there she meets a gentleman named Will who stitches up her wounds and helps her get established in her fiancés store, which Will is part owner. When Axel, Eliza's intended is delayed Will and Eliza spend a lot of time together. Neither wants to hurt Axel so they try to push their feelings for each other aside.
The storyline is put together well and the characters are very likeable. I believe Will was my favorite because he was such a giving and loving man.
Overall, I enjoyed this novel very much and think that Melissa Jagears is one of the best mail-order-bride story writers.
