*I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review*I was so hesitant to read this book. Never being one to like to say goodbye to a series, especially when it comes to my favorite characters, I almost didn't want to read it. I would open it, read a chapter and then tell myself not to read the next. I just wanted things to never change -to have my Flyboys with me always -but curiosity eventually won out and I finally worked up the courage to take the plunge and read the rest of Hallowed Ground. I'm glad I did.
I absolutely...ABSOLUTELY...loved this book from start to finish. I laughed. I cried. I wanted to smack Josh and Ember upside the head sometimes at their behaviors. Ultimately there was a connection between myself and the characters that made them so incredibly realistic to me. This just goes to show that Rebecca Yarros has created characters so three-dimensional and full of heart and soul that they don't feel limited to just inked words on pages. These characters have been such a part of my heart since I first was introduced to them in Full Measures and I'm glad I got to read the end of their story as well as what happened to the others. This story not only focuses on the flaws of our characters but their strengths as they battle their demons for the sake of love and each other. Though it breaks my heart having to let them go, I know their stories are done. When I finished the last page of the chapter, not only did I cry because of the ending but because of the beauty of their beginnings; the ones we'll never be privy to. So thank you, Rebecca Yarros. For gracing us with these wonderful characters. For showing us a love worth fighting for. And for putting a little bit of Josh and Ember in our hearts always. Thank you.

Hallowed Ground Flight Glory Book 4 edition by Rebecca Yarros Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Epic love, passion, and strength.
I’m overcome with emotion while sitting down to write this review. This book not only is packed full of love, risks, consequences, and passion, but it is the last in the series, and as such, I can’t help but get a little choked up.
All great series must come to an end. It never gets easier. But Yarros delivered one hell of a parting gift to those of us who are die-hard Flight & Glory fans.
HALLOWED GROUND returns to the core couple who started it all, Josh and Ember. They’ve grown as individuals as well as a couple and we get to revisit them at a crucial point in their lives. All the trials, the separation by space and duty stations, has come to head and they get a taste of what a perfect future could look like. Then, true to military fashion, those plans are turned upside down and send Josh back to Afghanistan, the country that nearly killed him once. Their love is strong, epic even, but it’s hard to know if they’ll survive war.
Yarros brings readers back home when slipping into Josh and Ember’s point of view and it is one incredible welcome. There is a fire between Josh and Ember’s characters that can’t be denied and the obstacles they must overcome to keep that blaze going are intense and heart wrenching. True to Yarros form, there isn’t a dull moment in this novel, or between our characters. They’re so fully constructed, they practically breathe from the pages, and one can only gasp with them as they face each problem, each blow, each passionate embrace that could be their last. It’s exquisite and heart breaking and awe inspiring.
Throughout the Flight & Glory series readers have been invited into the military world with no sugarcoating, filters, or artistic liberties. The author is an expert on the lifestyle and brings an authenticity to the novels that gives readers the rare glimpse of the truth behind the men and women who have to constantly say goodbye to their partners, to have faith that their love can withstand any trial, any war. Yarros punches readers right in the feels every single time and HALLOWED GROUND brings a whole new level of beautiful pain.
Reading the last book in the Flight & Glory series had my heart heavy, as saying goodbye to amazing characters you’ve kept up with and constantly hoped for, ever is. The only comfort I take is the fact that these books are so good, the characters so incredible, that I’ve re-read their stories many times already, and know that when I need them they’ll be there to take me on their epic journeys once again, and each time a new layer of emotion is discovered. Only truly great author’s have this capability—to keep readers pouring over the same lines they’ve seen before and gleaning new depth from it—-and Rebecca Yarros is one of them, one of the greats.
I can’t wait to see what she introduces us to next and I’m grateful for the amazing conclusion she gave to all Flight & Glory lovers in HALLOWED GROUND. It’s everything I didn’t know I needed and above and beyond the description of epic.
I wasn’t prepared for Hallowed Ground by Rebecca Yarros, not at all. If you are going to start reading it, them please do yourself a favour and have a box of tissues nearby. This will contain spoilers from all the previous books.
Hallowed Ground is book 4 in The Fight and Glory series and a sequel to book 1 – Full Measures. It’s set 2 years after the events of the first book and follows protagonists, December (Ember) and Josh as they set into life of living together, except now he is expected to go back to where he was nearly killed before and the place that took her father’s life – Afghanistan.
I love and hate this book. I loved it because the series finished with something really beautiful and we got to see the characters that we have come to previously love. However this book torn me to shreds.
I loved seeing Ember and Josh again, it had been quite a while since we had seen them, sure they came up in parts of the other books, but we didn’t see them, and it was nice to see.
I loved Ember as a character, her character arc is quite amazing from the first book. She has grown so much from the first time we have seen her. Throughout Hallowed Ground all I wanted to do is hug her. Ember broke me. She had been through so much before and in this book, she is ripped apart.
Josh, my love for Josh is unexplainable, but gosh did I want to slap him around a bit. I understand most of the things he did and that I am not even fussed about, however the things that happened with Ember towards the end of the book. It’s like Josh she loves you, why are you doing this to her and yourself.
They have survived through so much and I wasn’t sure they were going to survive this novel, especially with Josh being back in Afghanistan.
It was really great to see the military aspect of Hallowed Ground. We saw it a little in the last novel, however it wasn’t that prominent, with this novel being half in Josh point of view it made sense. I love military planes, there is something about there. Here is Victoria, where I live we have a thing called the Airshow every 2 years, where military planes and others come and put of a show. I love the feeling of hornets flying by. So I truly enjoyed seeing the military aspect.
One thing that annoyed me with Hallowed Ground was the consent separation between Ember and Josh, not the physical separation, but the emotional and it killed me. I just wanted everything to be okay, and it wasn’t, not in the slightest.
Hallowed Ground is emotionally draining. I cried for most of this book, bad things kept happening, all I wanted was for it to be over. Not because it was horrifying, because it hurt my heart.
Nevertheless, Hallowed Ground is probably my favourite of all 4 books. It had so much and more. There is a chance that I won’t read the middle two books again, for something in this book will make it impossible.
Although, many sad and emotionally heartbreaking things happened in Hallowed Ground there was so many beautiful moments that were heart lifting. The epilogue was just beautiful and I smiled the whole time reading it.
Overall, Hallowed Ground was a beautiful read that intertwined, family both by blood and friendship. Loss that can bring people closer together or tear some apart. About doing what is right for you and the ones that you love and forgiveness and what it truly means to forgive not only others but yourself.
